How to unlock the chicken coop in Don’t Die in the West

To build a new chicken coop in Don’t Die in the West, find Old Man Frank west of your ranch, ask for ranching tips, and then mention you’re interested in building a chicken coop. Complete his ‘Kill Nemesis’ quest by killing the coyote behind his house and you’ll unlock the chicken coop.

Let’s go through these steps in more detail.

How to find Old Man Frank

To find Old Man Frank, start from your ranch and head straight west until you find a path. Follow that path north and you’ll see Frank’s house on your right. To make this easier, check the image above for Frank’s Ranch exact location.

While there are two bandits outside, you don’t have to kill them. As long as you don’t attack them, they won’t bother you or Frank. Walk past the fence and talk to Frank, who is sitting on the porch. Select the following dialogue options:

  1. Any other ranching tips?
  2. I’m particularly interested in building a chicken coop.

Once you do these, Frank will give you a quest to kill Nemesis before you can unlock the chicken coop recipe.

How to find and kill Nemesis in Don’t Die in the West

Nemesis is a coyote that you can find just behind Frank’s house. You can kill it similarly to any other coyote, by attacking it with your axe, slingshot, or bow. If you don’t have it unlocked yet, check out our guide on how to get a bow and arrows in Don’t Die in the West.

I found Nemesis behind Frank’s house, on the rocks just left of it. It doesn’t have a name or anything to distinguish it from normal coyotes at first. However, once you attack, you will see the name ‘Nemesis’ above its HP if it’s the right one. Take it down and go back to Frank to unlock the Chicken Coop recipe.

How to craft the Chicken Coop in Don’t Die in the West

After completing the Nemesis quest, head back to your farm and you’ll be able to craft a Chicken Coop by accessing the construction menu (default hotkey: B) with the following items:
