Starfield’s main story has a lot of pivotal choices that you have to make under pressure. These choices will then heavily affect the overarching plot. One of these quests is called A Heavy Price to Pay, and your choices will result in the loss of a companion’s life. This is an unfortunate inevitability, and your relationship with your companion might also have an impact on which character will die. Starfield High Price to Pay choices Explained

Without spoiling too much, the members of the Constellation faction will be divided into two groups and will be present both at the Lodge, and The Eye. One of your companions will stay at the Lodge while the other three will be at The Eye.

Once you talk to Noel, The Eye will be attacked by enemies led by the Hunter, and then The Lodge will be attacked as well. Now, you will be given two choices: Defend the Lodge or Go to The Eye. 

Remember one of your four romanceable companions will die. Generally, the companion you have a high affinity with becomes the victim.

Defend the Lodge

If you choose this option, you will have to do the following things:

• Attack the Hunter as much as possible. During this gunfight, the rest of your group will go to the basement through the sewers.
• You will also have to go to the sewers and then reach The Well. Hunter will be chasing you, so be careful.
• Travel to the spaceport and escape with your ship.
• Go to the Eye and see what has transpired.

Once you enter this ship, you will see the damage Hunter’s goon has done, and one of your companions will die.

Go to the Eye

If you choose this option, you will have to do the following things:

• You will have to leave the Lodge before the Hunter chokes Walter.
• Do this quickly, as the door will become inaccessible.
• The companion that would’ve died if you chose the other option, now will only be wounded.
• When you return to the Lodge, you will find one of your companions. Dead.

After this, go to the sewer to find Noel. You will also encounter the Hunter. Quickly escape with your ship and regroup at the Eye.

This is a major plot point in Starfield. Constellation will take heavy damage and their members will have to preserve whatever is going to be left.
