When starting a new game file in Stardew Valley, players have the chance to pick their own name. However, it is our right as human beings to change our minds, right? In this guide, we will take you through whether you can change your name in Stardew Valley.

At the beginning, you can create your character’s appearance and choose a favorite aspect. But what if you want to change your gender, appearance, or name later on?

Let’s find out if you can change your name in Stardew Valley, and how you can do it!

Stardew Valley – how to change name

While it is entirely possible to change your name in Stardew Valley, in order to do so you will need to make your way to the Shrine of Illusions in the Wizard’s basement.

To access the basement, players must first level up their friendship with the Wizard. You can achieve this by talking to him daily, giving him gifts he likes and completing his quests. Once you reach four hearts of friendship, you can enter the Wizard’s basement through the back room of the tower to get to the shrine.

The cost to use the Shrine of Illusions is 500g each time. Have your wallet ready if you are looking to change your character’s appearance or name.

Additionally, you can access the basement room using a teleportation rune that is activated after completing the quest “Goblin Trouble”. You can complete this quest by defeating 10 slimes in the local mine.

Overall, while changing the appearance and name of a character may seem like a small detail, it can make a big difference in how enjoyable the game experience is. So, don’t hesitate to take advantage of the Shrine of Illusions when you want to switch things up a bit!
