Risk of Rain Returns illegal shipment – how to get it

Are you trying to get the illegal shipment in Risk of Rain Returns and get the Altered Genome achievement but can’t figure out how? While it sounds tricky, it’s actually significantly easy to find and can be done within just a few minutes. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to unlock and progress the final level before being able to get it. Here’s everything you need to know about this secret achievement.

Risk of Rain Illegal Shipment - box that contains the illegal shipment in the storage area.
Find and interact with this box in the storage area after getting the keycard to get the illegal shipment.

How to get the illegal shipment in Risk of Rain Returns

To get the illegal shipment and complete the Altered Genome achievement in Risk of Rain Returns, head to the final level ‘Risk of Rain’, progress the level until you get a keycard, and find the cargo/storage room that’s locked behind a keycard door. Enter the room and interact with the dark chest in the background on one of the shelves.

Once you interact and unlock this chest, you will get ‘The Toxin’ item, which is also the illegal shipment and will award you with the Altered Genome achievement. For me, the item was in the chest on the far-left shelf. If it’s not there for you, try interacting with all the other chests in the storage area.

To summarize, you can get the illegal shipment in Risk of Rain Returns by accessing the cargo area in the ‘Risk of Rain’ level and interacting with the box on the far left shelf. Just make sure to get the keycard beforehand, as you won’t be able to enter this area otherwise. As a reward, you’ll unlock ‘The Toxin’ item and get the ‘Altered Genome’ achievement. Since you’re on the final level and have almost completed the game, consider trying out something else.
