Flower Breeding in Fae Farm explained

Getting the flower seeds

You can get six base flower seeds from Rosalind and Asphodel. The following are all of them:

  • Red Rose Seeds
  • White Lily Seeds
  • Yellow Tulip Seeds
  • Blue Hyacinth Seeds
  • Green Zinnia Seeds
  • Magenta Trillium Seeds

To unlock all the seeds available at Asphodel, you will have to complete the Floating Ruins dungeon.

These seeds have six base flower colors and there are 12 color variants for each. Thus, there are a total of 72 flower types you can get in this game.

Flower Breeding Layout and Process

To plant your flower seeds, you will need Flower Soil Beds. Place two parallel rows of three Flower Soil beds on the ground with a Basic Soil Bed in the middle. The layout should be in the shape of “H.” In the Basic Soil Bed, you can plant a Bean seed, and when you water it with your Magical Watering Can, the entire layout will get watered. This effective layout design was popularized by JadeMist Gaming.

Now, plant your flower seeds in the top and bottom Flower Soil Beds if your row is laid out horizontally, or in the right and left Flower Soil Beds if your row is laid out vertically. Keep the middle Flower Soil Bed always empty. Why? Well, the hybrid Flower will grow in this empty Flower Soil bed.

Flower Combinations and Parent Genes

To understand how flower combinations work, you basically have to focus on two elements: the breed and color of the flower you want. And to do this accurately, you will need to take into account the Parent Genes.

Parent genes will be visible when you highlight a flower, and you will be able to see the two parent gene colors of a particular flower. When flower breeding happens, the combination of the two flowers’ parent genes will have an effect on the color of the hybrid flower you are breeding. Thus, if you combine a Red Rose and a Yellow Tulip, you may get an Orange Rose or an Orange Tulip.

Generally, the genes from the parent flowers will be passed down to the resulting hybrid flower. Meaning, the Orange Rose or the Orange Tulip will have both the Red and Yellow parent genes.

So, you will have to make sure you combine the flowers on the basis of their parent gene. The following are all the flower combinations for getting new colors:

  • Violet = Magenta + Blue
  • Orange = Red + Yellow
  • Teal = Blue + Green
  • Pink = Red + White
  • Black = Magenta + Green
  • Ivory = White + Yellow

If you want a basic color on a different type of flower, for instance, you want a Blue Tulip. Then, remember to place the breed you want, Yellow Tulip, next to the color you want, such as the Blue Hyacinth with the dominant parent gene color being blue.

This is how flower breeding works in Fae Farm. You will understand this mechanic the more you use it, so don’t get frustrated and just keep breeding.
