To begin the story, you will need to travel to the town of Montwise, which is located in the mountains of the Eastern Crestlands on Solistia’s Eastern continent.

Head east from Flamechurch or south from Cape Cold, and then continue eastward. Once you’ve arrived in Montwise, you’ll be able to find the Octopus Researcher just outside the inn. He is in dire need of assistance finding an investor willing to fund his research into Octopuffs, and that’s where you come in.

Once you’ve accepted the Octopus Researcher’s quest, your next destination will be Conning Creek. This is in the Southern Harborlands on Solstia’s Western Continent. To get there, you can head west and then south from Canalbrine, or south from Sai. When you arrive in Conning Creek, head to the Tavern and seek out the Octopus Enthusiast. Your task is to bring him back to the Octopus Researcher in Montwise.

During the day, you can use the Allure or Guide skills to get the Octopus Enthusiast to follow you. If it is nighttime, you can befriend him for 3x Jerky, or hire him for 2,400 leaves. 

Once you’ve successfully brought the Octopus Enthusiast back to the Octopus Researcher, they will have a conversation and decide to move forward with the research. The Octopus Researcher will express his gratitude for finding a benefactor for his research. Your reward will be a single Octopuff Pot.
