The Mortal Kombat franchise is back with a very strange reboot which goes all the way to… well, to one. Releasing on September 19, 2023, we will be back in the first game apparently. In this guide, we will take you through the Mortal Kombat 1 characters we know about so far.

In the game, you can call a fighter from a roster of characters to assist in your fight. Though the details of how these characters will work are still unknown, there are rumors already circulating. Also, we have some information on which characters will be coming to the game.

All characters in Mortal Kombat 1 

The upcoming game serves as a bit of a restart for the series, and players can expect a fresh take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Here is the list of all the characters we know about so far:

  • Mileena: A vicious individual who enjoys inflicting pain on her victims. She’s the clone of Kitana and has Tarkatan blood.
  • Scorpion: A long-standing character who is usually seen as an undead ninja. In MK1, he appears as his human self, Hanzo Hasashi. 
  • Kitana: A princess who is loyal to her father figure, Shao Khan, for most of her life. 
  • Johnny Cage: A long-standing character who may be involved in protecting Earthrealm.
  • Sub-Zero: In MK1, Sub-Zero is Kuai Liang, who is much nicer than his older brother Bi-Han. As Sub-Zero, he ends his long-standing rivalry with Scorpion and even works together in MK11.
  • Raiden: The Thunder God who is bound to be a leader in the war against Outworld.
  • Liu Kang: The strongest fighter Earthrealm has, who is ready to fight for peace among the realms.
  • Kung Lao: A fellow Shaolin Monk and best friend of Liu Kang, who is ready to fight to keep Earthrealm safe and aid Liu Kang.
  • Shang Tsung: A famous bad guy who is up for grabs if you pre-order the game. He may be in cahoots with Mileena.
