How to tune attachments in MW2 – Call of Duty gun customization

Modern Warfare 2 takes weapon customization to a whole new level by allowing you to tune various attachments. This is something that has been introduced to the Call of Duty series for the first time, and players absolutely love it. In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about how to tune attachments in MW2.

For those who are just starting out in the game, tuning is a brand-new system through which you get the luxury of taking your attachments to the next level. It lets you tune different attachments to increase the weapon’s stability, recoil, and other attributes.

We’ve put together this handy guide on how to tune attachments in MW2 so that you can be well on your way to maximizing your loadout’s potential when you hit the end game.

How to tune an attachment in Modern Warfare 2

Now, before you can tune your weapons, you must first unlock the system. As it is something advanced for players that are at the end-game, the developers put it at the very end of the weapon progression system. In other words, you can tune your weapons after you hit max level with them. For example, if you want to tune your M4, you will first need to hit level 20 with it.

After reaching the max level with a weapon, head to the Gunsmith and select the attachment you want to tune. This will take you to an area where you can tune the attachment using two sliders.

Let’s take a barrel as an example. For it, you will have a slider for weight on the left and a slider for length at the bottom. Taking the weight slider up will increase the recoil stabilization while bringing it down will increase the ADS speed. Similarly, the bottom slider will increase your ADS walking speed if you take it to the left and boost the aiming idle stability if you take it to the right.

It is important to remember that, except for magazines or lasers, you can tune every attachment. The developers might let us tune these two in the future as well, but nothing can be done about them at the moment. Furthermore, through the tuning system, you can adjust the following attributes:

  • Handling
  • Fire Rate
  • Mobility
  • Damage
  • Range
  • ADS Speed
  • Aim Walking Speed
  • Recoil Control
  • Accuracy
  • Aim Idle Stability

Now, while the tuning system seems amazing and all, you can end up doing more harm than good if not done right. This is because adjusting one attribute can end up harming the other, which will mess everything up. For instance, if you increase the ADS speed of your weapon, you might end up lowering the overall recoil stabilization of your weapon. Therefore, you will need to spend a lot of time balancing the attributes.

This marks the end of our guide on how to tune attachments in MW2. As you can see for yourself, the system is pretty advanced, and you will need to spend a good number of hours with it before you can get the hang of it. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that tuning can end up hurting your weapon’s overall performance, so you need to do it with extreme care. If you think you’re not doing it correctly, it’s better to leave it and use the weapon in its default state.
