The God of War series has been going strong ever since its first chapter on PlayStation 2, released in 2005. Then, as we’re sure many of you know, the series was rebooted in 2018 on the Ps4, with a new story and setting but still the return of Kratos as the main character. Now, the announcement of God of War Ragnarok has many players speculating: is God of War Ragnarok the last game in the series?
The story of Spartan soldier Kratos and his incredible journey into becoming the titled god of war had many players excited and delighted, with a strong bilogy on the original console which culminated in God of War III for PlayStation 3 which seemed to sum up the story pretty nicely. But still, Sony wasn’t ready to let go of such a strong franchise.
In its reboot, we saw the introduction of Kratos’ son, Atreus, who we also played as in many stretches of the 2018 game. So, with such a good story setup, is God of War Ragnarok the last game in the series, or will we see more from the dynamic duo?
Is God of War Ragnarok the last game in the series?
We have no confirmation from Sony, but we can definitely imagine that Kratos’ story is going to conclude in Ragnarok, with Atreus being the future main character for the series going forward. We further speculate that taking full control of Atreus in a third God of War game will end the Norse trilogy.
In the past, we’ve definitely seen how Sony seemed to favor trilogies in their game, with the original story of Kratos in Greece taking three titles to see its full narrative potential. But all is not lost for Kratos, even if Sony decides that his time is up, we can be sure he’s going to come back in other forms, perhaps even in spinoff titles if fans are loud enough.
Are you excited about the release of God of War Ragnarok? We sure are, but while we wait for Sony Santa Monica to complete the development, we can take our time playing some exciting Splatoon 3 Multiplayer and, well, even relax a bit in Stardew Valley.
