If you’re on a mobile device, tap the 3 bars to access your inventory. Long drag the item you want to drop to the bottom right of your inventory, over your funds. Letting go of the item there will drop it.
On the console (Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch), you need to turn off controller-style menus to drop items. Open your menu, scroll to the options tab, and uncheck the “Use Controller Style Menus” box.
When you drop items in Stardew Valley, remember to have something else in your inventory to fill the space. Otherwise, the dropped items might return to your inventory because of the magnet radius. Also, make sure to pick up items that you need within a day or two, or they will despawn or be lost forever.
