After a series of public playtesting sessions, Ubisoft found many “inconsistencies,” and has decided to delay XDefiant indefinitely. The development team has also confirmed this delay. On X (formerly Twitter), Mark Rubin, the executive producer and game director of XDefiant, has released a statement talking about the delay and mentioned that they are going to use this extra time to improve the game and address the issues that have been discovered during the testing.
He also highlighted a particular problem they found, stating, “A great example of feedback from the PTS test was around the movement feeling off. In particular, the slide felt nerfed or clunkier. Nothing had changed in that part of the game, but because people brought it up to us we were able to dig deeper and find that the slide was being interrupted by frame spikes.”
Ubisoft previously revealed that they might launch this game in September or October, but due to the problems they faced during the console certification process, the game was delayed. And now, there is still no official release date for XDefiant.
Mark Rubin has also expressed his own feelings regarding this delay by stating “I know it’s a bummer that we are moving the date especially since we seemed so close, and that for many the game is great and they can’t wait to play but I’d rather ship a game that is better for everyone. Our intent for the game is to be something that players can return to for many years and to do that we have to build this game WITH the community”
XDefiant will be a COD-style free-to-play shooter in which players will be able to play as characters from other popular Ubisoft IPs such as the Far Cry series and Splinter Cell Series. it will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
