What choice should you make during the Planecaster quest in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The best choice is to enter the Planecaster and not kill the Dream Visitor. But before you make the decision, let’s understand all of your choices in a little more detail. So after Vlaakith and Lae’zel ask you to enter the Planecaster and kill a prisoner, you will have two major choices, and each of them heavily affects your relationship with Lae’zel.

If you choose not to enter the Planecaster

You can leave the area where the Planecaster is present by going to the left side and solving a statue puzzle by turning one statue towards the east and one towards the back of the room. Choosing this option will result in losing Lae’zel as a party member, and she will leave the group and start attacking you. The only way to stop her is to kill her.

The choice will now branch into two more choices:

Killing the Dream Visitor

If you try to kill the Dream Visitor, it will be revealed that the Dream Visitor is actually invincible. Vlaakith has basically tricked you, and the moment you return from there, you will be attacked at the camp and generally experience very negative things in the story.

Not Killing the Dream Visitor

The Dream Visitor will really appreciate your choice, and you will gain their trust. You will still be attacked at the camp upon your return, but you will be able to convince Lae’Zel to stay in your party.

Therefore, all of these consequences clearly suggest that not killing the Dream Visitor is the best choice, especially if you want Lae’Zel to keep being your companion.
