How to complete the Sims 4 off the grid challenge

To play Off The Grid in The Sims 4, you need to enable the lot challenge in Build/Buy. Select “Off the Grid” from the available lot challenges to activate it.

When you re-enter Live Mode, a notification will inform your household that you are disconnected from the power grid. Objects that use electricity will no longer work, so you’ll need to adapt to living without them. Now you will need to swap out your lights, appliances, electronics, and plumbing for items that are compatible with the Off the Grid lot challenge.

In Build/Buy, look for the Off the Grid section. It contains objects from the lights, plumbing, and appliances categories that are functional with this challenge active. You’ll need to restock off-the-grid fridges with ice regularly. Some sinks and baths have limited functionality, so conserve water. You can gather water from any natural body of water and collect 5 units of water each time.

If you have the Eco Lifestyle expansion, you can produce your own power through green technologies like solar panels and wind turbines. You can also use gas-powered generators or bio-fuel from insect farms to be eco-friendly. Having green technologies or generators to power your home will allow you to use electricity and plumbing off the grid.

As long as the power you use does not exceed what you generate, you can live like you’re on-the-grid, even making money by selling excess power back to the power company.
